Visiting the Strasbourg Christmas Market in Europe has always been on our bucket list.

We’ve visited Strasbourg before, but there’s just that extra magic in an already charming town during the holidays.

All the twinkling lights paired with the over the top Christmas decor, all in a fairytale setting is just so enchanting.

The Strasbourg Christmas Market in France is just so spectacular, and I highly recommend you add it to your bucket list!

We got the chance to visit the Strasbourg Christmas Market, or the Marche de Nöel, and it was just amazing!

Voted as the “Top Christmas market in Europe”, the Strasbourg Christmas Market is definitely the one to visit if you’re planning a Christmas Market trip to Europe.

Strasbourg’s Christmas Markets have been going on for over four centuries. The first Christmas markets were held in 1570, making it one of the oldest in Europe and the very first in France. 

With its famous Christmas Tree illuminations in Place Kléber, over 300 wooden chalets selling some of the most unique Christmas items, and amazing foods to sample, Strasbourg’s Christmas market has something for everyone.

Place Kléber Christmas Tree

One of the best things to do at the Strasbourg Christmas Market in France is a visit to the Christkindelsmärik’s Christmas Tree on Place Kléber.

The Christmas Tree is usually one of the biggest Christmas trees in Strasbourg, and towers over the square at over 30 meters. At night the tree lights up and it’s absolutely spectacular.

Take a stroll and admire the Christmas Decor

Strolling through the Strasbourg Christmas Market was like walking into Santa’s workshop! 

You will most likely find giant teddy bears, larger than life ornaments and sparkly lights adorning the windows and every street corner. It was just jaw dropping gorgeous everywhere!

Make sure to visit Petite France and stroll along the most picturesque place in Strasbourg, It’s not too Christmassy here, but it’s just so charming!

Explore all the themed Christmas Markets in Strasbourg

The best part about the Strasbourg Christmas Market in France are all the themed markets. There are 10 markets to explore and they’re all quite unique!

Since Strasbourg is a fairly small city, you will most likely bump into one along your stroll, with various locations throughout!

One of the oldest ones is the Christkindelsmärik which can be found near the Strasbourg Cathedral on Place Broglie.

Enjoy the food and shopping at Strasbourg’s Christmas Market in France

One of the best things about a Christmas Market in Europe is the food. We enjoyed all the yummy foods, especially the hot wine that warmed us up during the cold winter.

Make sure to also sample the Alsace Regions specialties such as the tarte flambée, which is like a pizza topped with cheese, onion, and strips of ham, which is also called flammekueche in German.

Don’t forget to shop for that one of a kind souvenir item on your visit. One of the best things to do at a Christmas market is to shop!

We’ve found some of the most unique ornaments and gift ideas here at the Strasbourg Christmas Market. It was hard to not buy everything as they were all cool!

What to wear while exploring the Christmas Markets

One thing to remember when visiting any Christmas Market in Europe is to bundle up!

Dress in layers and make sure to wear more than you think. You can always peel away the layers if you get too warm.

Just remember it’s winter time in Europe and it can get very cold., especially for the kids!
