The Fairytale Burg Eltz Castle
Burg Eltz is one of the few castles in Germany that has never been destroyed, and felt it was more of an authentic visit compared to Neuschwanstein Castle.
The Mosel region is home to some of the most amazing fairytale castles in Germany, and Burg Eltz is one of the most beautiful ones we’ve seen.
If you want to explore all the castles of Germany in the region, one of the best ways is a cruise on the Mosel River.

How to get to the fairytale Burg Eltz Castle
There are various ways to get to Burg Eltz Castle. You can either get here by car, bus or train. I suggest going on a road trip, the scenery getting here is just amazing!
Once you make it to Burg Eltz, there are a few ways to get to the castle. You can either make your way to the castle on foot or by shuttle (which cost 2 euros).
The walk to the castle is fairly short, and there are two ways to get there. You can either follow the paved road to the castle, or the short hiking trail along the Eltz forest.
The short hike takes you through the beautiful nature reserve through Eltz forest, which was so amazing.
As you make your way through the enchanted forest, the trail curves and the castle emerges, which was just so stunning!
Admission to Burg Eltz Castle
Burg Eltz castle is open daily from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm. You can visit the castle grounds year round, it’s especially beautiful in the fall and winter covered in snow.
Admission costs 10 euros for adults, and kids are 6 euros. You can also purchase a family ticket which costs 28 euros for 2 adults and 2 kids.
The Eltz Forest is a perfect place to hike, and considered one of the most beautiful hikes in the Rhineland- Palatinate area in Germany. Click here for hiking info.
Burg Eltz Castle Treasury tour
You’re timed entry ticket to Burg Eltz also comes with free entry to the Castles treasury. This is the perfect place to explore while waiting on your castle tour to start.
The treasury was one of the most interesting place at Burg Eltz Castle. The treasury holds the castles many treasures, which includes jewels, it’s armory and suits of armor.
It was pretty cool and our little one thought it was quite amazing! There is also a cafe located on the Castle grounds if you’re in need of some refreshments before starting your castle tour.
Tip-Leave the stroller, there is a short hike to get to the castle, and once you get there, the cobblestone streets make it hard to maneuver.
Tour of the fairytale Burg Eltz Castle
Our guided tour of Burg Eltz Castle was such a fun and informative experience.
We learned that the castle was owned by a few families, and was divided into several parts.
This usually occurs when multiple owners of one or more territories jointly build a castle.
It was amazing how they split up the castle into separate living spaces, each was different from each other.
The tour was such an experience, with a labyrinth like layout. There were so many staircases and secret doors to explore, it was quite impressive!
There is so much history to explore in one of the most authentic castles in Germany. If only these walls could talk, there’s so much history here!
We had such a great time with the tour, and it was the perfect amount of time when visiting with the little ones.
The guides were very informative and fun, unfortunately, photographs are not allowed, so we didn’t get photos of the interior.
Tip- The tour of the castle involves going up and down stairs, so if you’re visiting with a baby use a baby carrier.
I hope this Burg Eltz Castle guide helps you plan your visit to one of the most beautiful castles in Germany.
It’s one of the most authentic castles you will find in the country, and I highly recommend you add it to your itinerary when planning your trip to Germany.
The Mosel region is also one of the most beautiful places to visit in Germany, full of history, beautiful castles and great food.
