Our road trip though Europe takes us to Prague in the Czech Republic. Known as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Prague really does live up to it’s title.

With its breathtaking architecture, old world charm and an abundance of things to do, Prague is definitely one city not to be missed.

We stayed in Prague for one week and felt like we didn’t even scratch the surface of all there is to do.

On the blog I will highlight some of our top things to do and see in Prague with kids, so you can plan that family vacation to the Czech Republic.

How to get around in Prague

During our stay, we made sure to find a hotel close to public transportation. We chose to get around using the trams, which are an effective way to see the city.

The tram stop was literally across the street from us and made lots of stops along the cities main sites.

Tram number 22 takes you all the way to Prague Castle, which was awesome as it is quite a trek to get up with the kiddos.

You can easily walk to most places in Prague, but with our little one, riding the tram was a lifesaver.

You can purchase tickets directly from your hotels front desk or at the many train stations.

It’s not very expensive and I believe it’s the best way to get around sightseeing in Prague. Just make sure to validate your ticket once you enter the trams.

Prague Main Attractions

Visit the Dancing House

One of the most iconic sites to see in Prague is the dancing house, or Fred and Ginger, as some call it.

We arrived here late in the afternoon and it was one of the first places we visited since it was a short walk away from our hotel.

It was one of the most unique buildings we’ve seen, and also one of the most photographed.

The building definitely stands out among the Baroque, Gothic and Art Nouveau buildings for which Prague is famous for.

Explore the Prague Castle Complex

One of Prague’s main attraction is a visit to the Prague castle complex. The Castle complex is such an expansive place to see, you can easily spend the whole day here.

Tickets are necessary when planning a visit to the Prague Castle complex, with a few ticket options to choose from.

We purchased the Prague Castle circuit A tickets to see the whole place, and it was quite overwhelming! it’s definitely something to think about when visiting Prague with kids.

If you feel that the kids wouldn’t be up to a whole day tour of Prague Castle, you can skip the castle tour and just explore the public courtyards and gardens, which is completely free, along with the Cathedral as well.

St. Vitus Cathedral

One of the highlights of the Prague Castle complex is the St. Vitus Cathedral. Built in 1344, this Cathedral was quite impressive in size and it’s beauty.

The cathedral is a great example of Gotchic architecture and is the most important church in the country.

Entrance to the Cathedral is FREE, but be aware that there are very long lines just to get in. I would be sure to bring something to keep the kids busy, including some snacks.

Churches

In the Castle complex, you will also find a few churches to visit, and are all quite remarkable!

We got to visit quite a few and they were all so beautiful. One in particular was St. George’s Basilica, which is one of the oldest churches in the Czech Republic.

Golden Lane

Another highlight of our visit to the Prague castle complex was the Golden Lane.

Originally built in the 16th century, to house castle guards, it takes its name from the goldsmiths that lived there in the 17th century.

Visiting the Prague castle complex can be quite intimidating with kids, especially during the summer crowds.

If you do plan to visit the Castle complex I suggest you take your time and take lots of breaks. You don’t have a time limit so make the most of your time there.

We visited most of the sites, but skipped a couple that we thought we didn’t mind seeing.

In the end, the one thing we enjoyed was the amazing Prague city views. It’s so worth coming up to the area just for these views!

One of the top things to do in Prague with kids is the changing of the guards at Prague Castle.

The changing of the guard ceremony takes place in the sentries at the gates of the medieval castle every hour from 07:00 daily and can’t be missed. It was quite a spectacle and our little one enjoyed it.

Explore Prague’s Old Town Square

A visit to the Old Town Square is one of the top things to do on your sightseeing tour of Prague.

It is one of the most beautiful and crowded squares we’ve ever seen. Prague in general can get very crowded, as it is one of the most visited cities.

But nothing can prepare you for just how crowded it can get till you visit in the summer! Regardless, it was one of our favorite places to people watch in Prague.

Admire all the beautiful architecture surrounding you here, the pastel colored buildings were just so beautiful.

You can even tour the city on a horse carriage ride, which is a nice and relaxing way to see the city.

There is so much going on in the Old Town square, you can find street performers, art vendors, and other fun things going on here.

It definitely was one place we kept coming back to even with the crowds.

Stroll across Charles Bridge in Prague

One of our Prague highlights was a simple stroll across the 14th century Charles Bridge.

The bridge is decorated by a continuous alley of 30 baroque style statues and statuaries, which made it one of the most beautiful bridges we’ve seen.

Take a stroll and admire the city views from here. There are also art vendors lining the bridge and it was quite fun watching them work.

They also sell some of the most beautiful paintings of the city and the bridge, which makes for a perfect souvenir to take home.

The bridge is also the best place to watch the amazing sunsets over the city, be aware that this place was also one of the most crowded as well.

To avoid the crowds, get here early in the morning, especially if you want crowd free photos!

Stroll through Mala Strana

Cross Charles Bridge and it will lead you to one of the most historic parts of Prague.

The Malá Strana is a hillside area with narrow streets lined with hotels, casual eateries and traditional pubs.

This is a great place to take a leisurely stroll. You can also visit the John Lennon wall and scribble a message. It is a must do when visiting this historic place in Prague.

From here there are many places worth seeing such as the Wallenstein Palace and the many churches in the area.

Eye spy the Sigmund Freud statue

One thing to look out for as you stroll along the streets of Prague is the hanging statue of Sigmund Freud.

Look up as you walk the streets and this seven foot tall statue will definitely catch your eye!

At first it can be startling as it looks like someone is hanging on to dear life.

But you will quickly realize it’s artwork, which was such a unique sight! Definitely a must see in Prague.

Take a boat ride on the Vltava River

One of the most fun things to do in Prague with kids is a boat ride on the Vltava River.

You can rent peddle boats and have a relaxing ride while you admire the city views.

It was amazing to see the city from a different perspective, and it allowed our little one to take a break and have some downtime. It’s definitely a must do in Prague.

Sample Prague’s street foods

One of the best things about traveling is the food! Make sure to go on a taste of Prague and sample some of the many street foods.

One in particular is the Tredlnik, which is a kind of spit cake made from rolled dough that is wrapped around a stick, then grilled and topped with sugar and walnut mix. There are many variations to this snack.

You can top it with fresh fruits and whipped cream, or ice cream dipped in chocolate! It was one of the most unique and delicious snack we’ve ever tasted.

One other thing to sample is the ham roasting on an open fire, the goulash in a bread bowl that you can wash down with some grog, and lots of fresh fruits.

Take the kids to Hamley’s toy store

One of the best things to do in Prague with kids is a visit to Hamley’s toy store. This was one of the biggest toy stores we’ve seen and was so much fun.

The kiddos will have a blast with the carousel rides, the giant indoor slide and other fun activities.

You can even play with some of the toys, which is a great treat for the kiddos for all the sightseeing they’ve done. It was definitely the highlight of our little ones visit to Prague!

Pop bubbles with the Bubble Man

One thing not to miss in Prague with kids is the bubble man on Na Příkopě Street.

The kids will have a great time popping giant bubbles, and so will the adults! something so simple, yet so entertaining.

It’s such a gorgeous city full of amazing architecture, tasty foods, friendly people, and one unforgettable experience.

One of the best things about Prague are the abundance of playgrounds and parks for the kiddos, which makes for one amazing family vacation in Prague.

We can’t wait to visit again and see more of this wonderful country.
