Stroll through Innsbruck’s Alstadt
One of the best things to do in Innsbruck Austria if you only have one day is to explore Old Town Innsbruck.
Innsbruck’s Old Town is surrounded by beautiful medieval buildings with colorful facades, that now house shops, cafes, and restaurants.
Sit in one of the cafes and just admire the beautiful Gothic and Baroque architecture around you, it’s just so beautiful!
The Goldenes Dachl
One of the top tourist attractions in Innsbruck is the Goldenes Dachl or the Golden Roof.
This famous landmark in the Old Town of Innsbruck is famous for its roof, which is decorated with 2,657 fire-gilded copper tiles.
The Golden Roof was built in the 1500s for Emperor Maximilian I to mark his wedding to Bianca Maria Sforza.
The balcony was used to observe festivals, tournaments, and other events that took place in the square below.
Admire the River Houses
On your Innsbruck sightseeing tour, make sure to visit the pastel houses along the River Inn.
These beautiful pastel-colored houses against the backdrop of the Alps were just so breathtaking.
It’s definitely a must-see on our day trip to Innsbruck, one of the most picturesque cities in the Austrian Alps.
Maria-Theresien Strasse
Located within Innsbruck’s city center is the Maria-Theresien Strasse.
This pedestrianized street is the perfect place for people watching as you sip a coffee at one of the outdoor cafes.
You can also pick up some souvenirs, or shop to your heart’s content at the many shops lining the street.
Relaxing along the Maria-Theresien Strasse is the perfect place to take a break from your sightseeing tour of Innsbruck.
Admire the beautiful painted buildings
As you stroll along the beautiful streets of Innsbruck, you will notice the many painted buildings. One, in particular, is the Helbling House.
This 15th-century townhouse is just so impressive with its icing-like facade! It was one of the most beautiful buildings we’ve seen during our stroll along Innsbruck’s city center.
We had an amazing time during our day trip to Innsbruck and wished we could’ve stayed longer!
If you have more time you can even go up the mountains on a gondola ride and enjoy some hiking out in the Austrian Alps.
Innsbruck also hosted the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976, and you can visit OlympiaWorld and go down the Bobsleigh track, which sounds like so much fun!
There’s so much more to do in Innsbruck, and wish we stayed an extra day. Plan your visit to Innsbruck and get to know this alpine city in Austria.
