One of our favorite activities to do during the spring, summer, and fall in the DC area is fruit picking! There are so many U-Pick Fruit Farms near DC that offer pick-your-own fruits throughout the year.
On the blog, I am sharing some of the best pick-your-own fruit farms near DC in Virginia, and Maryland
Most of these U-Pick farms near DC offer pick-your-own strawberries during the spring, and many other U-Pick fruits during the summer and fall, including berries, apples, peaches, and more!

Pick your own fruit farms & Strawberry picking in Virginia
Great Country Farms
Great Country Farms is our favorite pick-your-own fruit farm near DC, and offers so many U-pick fruits throughout the year, including one of my favorite fruits-strawberries!
Pick your own strawberries season at Great Country Farms starts sometime from mid to late May through early June.
Great Country Farms also hosts their annual Strawberry Jubilee Festival on May 20,21, 27, 28 & 29 of the 2023 season.
The Strawberry Jubilee Festival features live music, farm contests, wagon rides, great food, and fun games for the whole family.
You can also indulge in Cider Donuts, Strawberry Lemonade, hand-dipped ice cream, and baked goods including strawberry rhubarb pies.
Your admission fee also includes entrance to the Farm Play area as well which includes jumping pillows, slides, farm animals, giant mazes, and more!
During the summer, Great Country Farms offers many pick-your-own fruits including:
- Blackberries (from mid-late July)
- Peaches (from July & August)
- Cherries (from early June)
- Apples (Late Aug through Sept)

Hollins Farms
Hollins Farms is another great pick-your-own fruit farm near DC that also offers U-Pick strawberries in the spring.
The pick-your-own-strawberry season starts sometime in mid to late May, and they also offer lots of pick-your-own fruits during the summer as well including berries, apples, peaches, and more!
- Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, Sour Cherries (late June to early July)
- Berries, peaches, Japanese plums, Asian pears (July & August)
- Apples (September & October)

Wegmeyer Farms
Wegmeyer Farms also offers the best place to pick your own strawberries in the dc area during the spring sometime in May and June.
There are two different locations for U-Pick strawberries- the Oatlands Field & Hamiltons Field which are now open for picking!
Reservations for the family can be made online here and cost $29 which includes your first bucket of strawberries. This reservation is for the entire family and only one reservation needs to be made. You can also purchase pre-picked strawberries and donuts at Gilbert’s Corner.

Yankey Farms
Yankey Farms is another great place to pick your own strawberries in Northern Virginia which is now open for picking and usually goes from mid-May to mid-June.
Containers are provided during your visit and are sold by volume (no outside containers allowed). Strawberries cost $25 per gallon bucket or $7 per quart container.
Tickets can be purchased onsite, but reservations are required on Saturdays and on Memorial Day and must be reserved by 8pm the day before! Tickets can not be reserved the day of!
- Hours: 9am-5pm (closed Sundays)
- Admission: No admission fee for fruit picking, must reserve a spot on weekends here.
- Location: Strawberries only available at 11806 Bristow Rd in Bristow VA
Braehead Farms
Braehead Farms is another great place to pick your own strawberries in Virginia and is now open for picking. The strawberry season here usually goes from around late April and lasts through May.
Reservations are not necessary and you only pay for what you pick. Containers can be purchased at the farm for $1. Pick your own strawberries cost $3.99/lb-$4.99/lb pre-picked.
There is also a fun play area for kids which includes play barns with hay, swings, and slides, sand piles with trucks and toys, a tree deck with slides, and more! Play area tickets cost $5 per person, (will raise to $6 on May 1, 2023) FREE for 2 and under!

Mt. Pleasant Farm also offers lots of choices to pick your own fruits near DC including a pick-your-own strawberry farm which usually opens sometime between mid-April to mid-June.
Strawberries are sold by the pound which cost $3.29/lb. Pre-picked strawberries cost $6/quart.
There is also a play area for kids, farm animals, barrel trains, and pony rides during the busy season.

Homestead Farms
Homestead Farms is one of our favorite pick-your-own fruit farms near DC, and our favorite place to pick your own apples.
We love picking apples here, and their freshly baked apple pies! There are also some farm animals to admire, a produce market, and a refreshment stand with picnic tables.
Homestead Farms is also located next to Rocklands Farms winery, which makes a great stop for wine tasting after picking apples!

Larriland Farms
Larriland Farms offers pick your own fruits throughout the year from May-November, including pick your own strawberries.
The strawberry season for 2022 starts sometime in late May to early June, and that will be the farm opening day!
Strawberries and other pick-your-own fruits are charged by the container, not by the pound, with several different size containers to choose from. You must purchase a container before entering the fields.
You can purchase a container at the field and the size of the container determines how many people may enter the field. No outside containers may be used at the farm.

- Red Raspberries (late June-mid July / early August-mid September)

Butlers Orchard
Butlers Orchard is our favorite pick-your-own fruit farm near DC.
They offer many pick-your-own fruits, including U-Pick Strawberries which will open on May 24, 2022.
Make reservations here to ensure a spot, tickets will only be sold at the gate if available!
There is a $4 admission fee, and you must purchase a container when you make your reservation. Strawberry containers cost $6 for a quart / $25 for half flat.
Your admission also includes access to the Farm Park which includes a Giant slide, Farm animals, Pedal Tractors, Playgrounds, and more!

Schlagel Farms
Another pick-your-own fruit farm near DC to pick strawberries is Schlagel Farms which is now open for picking.
Strawberries are sold by the pound and you can bring your own containers or get one at the farm.
Strawberries are in season from early May to June and are sold by the pound which cost $3.79/Lb or $6.50/qt Prepicked.
On weekends there is a milkshake trailer serving strawberry shortcakes, milkshakes, and cones!

Gaver Farms
Gaver Farms is one of our favorite places to pick your own apples near DC in the fall. The apple picking season opens in August 2022 and goes till December.
They have many varieties to choose from including Blondee, Buckeye, Empire, Ultra Gold, Crimson Crisp, Cameo, and Fuji. Apples cost peck $25 a peck or $35 half-bushel bag.
You may only enter the orchard if you have purchased a bag with a limit of 4 people per bag. Kids under 2 are not included in 4 person limit.
Hayrides to pick apples are free! You only need to pay admission if you plan to visit the farm fall festival.
Gaver Farms Fall Festival is one of the best and is worth the admission fee. There are giant slides, a corn maze, jumping pillows, farm animals, and more!
- Hours: Open 10 am – 6 pm.
- Weekend: FREE hayrides from 10 am – 6 pm
- Weekdays: FREE hayrides (12:00, 2:00, 4:00, 5:30).
- Admission: No admission needed to pick apples-Free Hayrides to apple orchards
- Admission fee to farm festival $15.00/person on September weekends, $17.00/ person on October weekend, and $11/person on weekdays. Kids under 2 are free.

Swann Farms
Another pick your own Strawberry farm near DC is Swann Farms in Maryland which is now open for strawberry picking!
U-Pick strawberry season at Swann Farms goes from early May-June and costs $6 per quart, and $22 per gallon. You can also purchase prepicked strawberries for $6.50/quart.
Blueberries and Blackberries are also available for picking sometime in May-July.
