The Capitol Christmas tree

You can’t miss a visit to the US Capitol to see the Capitol Christmas tree on the West Lawn, which is one of the best Christmas events in the Washington DC area.

Every year a different national forest has been chosen to provide “The People’s Tree” and it’s always decorated so beautifully with handmade ornaments!

For 2023, the tree will come from the Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia and the lighting ceremony will be on Dec. 2.

The handmade ornaments on the tree are usually donated by communities from the tree’s home state as well, and it’s our favorite part about the Capitol Christmas Tree!
