A Colonial Williamsburg Halloween-Haunting on DoG Street

We got to experience a Colonial Williamsburg Halloween at the Haunting on DoG Street event two years in a row, and it’s always so much fun!

What better place to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve, than at America’s first colonial town. It’s such a fun event for the whole family, and I highly recommend a visit.

*2021 UPDATE: The Haunting on DoG Street event at Colonial Williamsburg is canceled this year! Visit the website here to keep up to date with the fall events.

The Haunting on DoG Street

The Haunting on DoG Street is a family friendly event, with not one, but two nights of trick-or-treating! This two night event goes for two hours starting at 6-8 pm.

This annual Trick or Treating event is the perfect place to take the kiddos. A fun-filled night full of spooky delights, which include the popular haunting horsemen astride their skeleton steeds.

The return of Blackbeard and his merry band of pirates, a haunted auction at the Raleigh Tavern, and the Pumpkin Patch Dance Party with live music.

You can also get on a spooky carriage ride, listen to ghost stories, and other fun special events.

There are so many fun re-enactments going on, with the many costumed entertainers. They were the perfect distraction while you wait for trick or treating to start.

Trick or treating starts at 6:00 pm, but make sure to stand in line early to be one of the first to get their candy, so you can enjoy the rest of the festivities.

Our little ones favorite event is the Dance Party complete with live music, which was so much fun.

The spooky decor made the whole experience that much more fun, with the street all decked out for Halloween.

Where to stay in Colonial Williamsburg

During our Halloween visit to Colonial Williamsburg, we chose to stay at the Griffin Hotel. It’s located within the historic town, and is a short walking distance to the starting point of the event.

This hotel is part of the Colonial Williamsburg Resort and is the perfect place to stay on your visit. You can even stay at one of the Colonial homes in the area, which makes for an even spookier visit!

Make sure to reserve your stay ahead of time, if you want to stay in one of the Colonial homes.

Also be sure to check out the College of William & Mary’s free trick-or-treat on the Row, where college students pass out candy for FREE to children.
Busch Gardens fright-fest is another fun one (perhaps better with older children).

Thank you! I’ve got to check that one out. And your right I believe Busch Gardens fright fest is geared towards older kids. I know they have one for kids during the day though.
